Flaked soy
and grains

Flattened (flaked) grains of soy, corn and oilseeds — pre-treatment for oil pressing or direct use as highly digestible animal feed.

Three uses of flaked grain

Flaking is a multi-purpose pre-treatment — same process, different final product paths.

🫙
Pre-treatment for oil pressing

Flattened grain has a larger contact surface — increases oil extraction efficiency by 15–20% compared to whole grain.

Direct animal feed

Flaked soy without further processing — high digestibility 88–94%. Ideal for ruminants, horses and pigs as a protein supplement.

Pre-treatment for extrusion

Flaking before extrusion reduces residence time in the extruder and lowers energy consumption. More homogeneous thermal treatment.

How does flaking work?

Simple process — grains pass through two rollers that flatten them into a thin flake without damaging nutritional values.

1
Cleaning and conditioning

Grains are cleaned of impurities and conditioned with steam or water to 12–16% moisture. Softer grain flattens better.

Rotary airlock + steam
2
Flaking (rolling)

Grains pass between two smooth steel rollers under pressure. The roller gap is set to 0.3–0.5 mm for an optimal flake.

3
Flake drying (optional)

If flaked soy is the final product, the flakes must be dried to < 12% moisture for longer shelf life and transport.

Packaging or further processing

Finished flakes are packaged for sale or go directly to the extruder / oil press within the same line.

💡 Why flake soy?

  • Oil yield increase of 15–20%
  • Better digestibility than whole grain
  • Faster and more efficient extrusion
  • Low process energy consumption
  • No chemical treatment — clean process
  • Application flexibility — oil or feed
